Seasons of Success at Appalachian Banner Academy

Summer 2025 Edition:
Living Our Best Lives
As summer winds down, we’re reflecting on a season filled with growth, laughter, and community. Our students embraced every opportunity—from outdoor learning and life skills to art projects and trips that brought lessons to life. They built new friendships and we see our learners gaining confidence in ways that inspire us every day!

In this edition, we’re sharing some of our students' favorite summer moments, celebrating the achievements of our "off season," and giving you a peek at what’s ahead this fall.

Appalachian Banner Academy Awarded $6,500 Grant

We are thrilled to share that Appalachian Banner Academy has received a $6,500 grant from the Opportunity Endowment Fund, a fund of the East Tennessee Foundation. This generous support will help us continue our mission to provide exceptional educational opportunities and resources for individuals with special needs in our community.

We sincerely thank the East Tennessee Foundation for believing in our work and investing in the future of our students and families!

From adventures to achievements, our students have truly embraced the season—take a look at their summer highlights!

Sensory Space at Freedom Hall Fireworks a Success!

This year, Appalachian Banner Academy was proud to again provide a Sensory Space at the Freedom Hall fireworks celebration—a calm, welcoming environment for individuals who needed a break from the noise and crowds. The space featured soft lighting, sensory-friendly activities, and comfortable seating, creating a safe place for guests of all ages to relax and recharge before heading back to the festivities.

We were thrilled to see families using the space to enjoy the holiday in a way that felt comfortable for them. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, volunteered, or helped spread the word! Special thanks to our amazing community partners who helped make this possible.

Building Bridges:
Updates from the Special Needs Coalition

Appalachian Banner Academy is excited to announce the creation of the Special Needs Coalition for Northeast Tennessee, which officially began in June. This coalition brings together individuals, families, organizations, and service providers committed to advocating for, supporting, and empowering people with special needs and their loved ones. By uniting families, healthcare providers, educators, local government agencies, and community groups, the coalition aims to expand access to healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and community inclusion programs. It also focuses on raising awareness, advocating for policy changes, and hosting educational workshops and events to foster understanding and inclusion. Our vision is a more connected, empathetic, and accessible Northeast Tennessee where individuals of all abilities have the opportunities, respect, and support they deserve. Everyone is welcome! Join us for our next meeting—details can be found on our Facebook event page.
